My Approach
Self-discipline is not about how much “willpower” you have, or trying to be constantly “motivated” all the time (which is impossible)
Rather, self-discipline is about understanding yourself, your brain, and your emotions – and then setting up a system to achieve your goals which is ideal for YOU.
And ideal for you in the real-world, where there are days you are tired, unmotivated, or just plain feeling miserable.
As I like to say:
“Self-discipline done wrong (pushing yourself too far, burning out, being hard on yourself) won’t last long, but self-discipline done right (taking things one step at a time, living a balanced life, being kind to yourself) will last a lifetime.” – The Disciplined Rebel

How Do I Get Started Building Self-Discipline?
My Story of Transformation Through Self-Discipline
10 years ago I was the biggest procrastinator in the world. But then I started building self-discipline, and my life began to change dramatically.
Before I developed self-discipline, here is what I did on a typical day:
- Played video games for countless hours
- Ate fast food nearly every meal
- Watched endless YouTube videos (not to learn but just as a form of escapism)
- Avoided any exercise
- Surfed the internet for long periods of time
- Resisted anything productive
- Spent lots of time alone
- Felt horrible about myself
But then, through years of self-discovery, practice, and learning, I gradually became more self-disciplined.
And as I started to build self-discipline, my life turned completely around.
Here is what I do on a typical day now:
- Exercise
- Work hard on my career
- Meditate
- Read
- Journal
- Spend time with my wife, who I am happily married to
- Help my wife through health issues she has
- Feel a strong sense of purpose and satisfaction with life
- Work on The Disciplined Rebel website and YouTube channel to help others build self-discipline
Self-discipline has completely turned my life around, and has made me a much more successful, and more importantly, a whole lot happier.
